Beyond EDSA

TLB
I
The roadway is clear to travel
There's no hindrance that our eyes can see
Yet along the way none can foretell
The danger that lurks in each day
Of every nook and cranny of curvy lanes
For roadways can't always be straight
Through mazes of turns and sudden changes
In some steep and hilly forest glades
II
The uprising was real and true
People massed along the roadway
To wait for death in the afterglow
And seek solace in their little way
But death hid his face in steel mask
To gaze at people with fleeting eyes
And thus lament, powerless am I to do the task
For the Almighty decreed that no man dies
III
The joy of being inspired the muse
To sing hymns to life and freedom
And wont to proclaim the eternal clashes
Between the good and the damned
Yet in the gleaming twilight of an era
The joy of being engulfed the crowd
To chant patriotic songs with euphoria
That made the angels and devils proud
IV
Then the war machines stirred and rambled through
To strike fear in any man's heart
But the multitudes surged and threw
Their lithe bodies along the path
And in the smouldering of early summer
The swaying hot winds suddenly grew cold
Then ceased to gaze at the scented shower
Of flowers from the holy virgin's hold
V
The crumbling power began to unfold
As the uprising reached its zenith
T'was an old tale foretold
When tyranny will meet its fate
In some arbor shades at the ungodly hour
For the day of reckoning was near
As it was had been of yore
That tyrants can't reign forever
VI
The veil of night slowly been lifted
And the early dawn hovered across the land
The mighty sword that was unsheathed
Unshackled the grip of the setting sun
Over afield a cascading roar was heard
Blended with music and jaunty moves
Freed from the suffering they have endured
The masses were in celebrating mood
VII
The roadway is still clear to travel
Through its windings and turns
Yet there is a thing that unraveled
And people never seemed to learn
That in every life of a nation
A would-be tyrant will be born
To haunt the land with her delusion
And destroy the freedom won
