Self-Flagellating People
Not just Lent but all year-round
The pinoys do harm themselves or
The nearest neighbor in satire, subtly
Slipping on a banana peel incurs laughter
Without food to eat the poor are easy targets
Opportunists, and the corrupt abound
Rock bottom is near, the nails digging up in vain
After 4oo years under foreign perverts
The culture is irreparably damaged
The continuing revolution keeps on eating her own sons
The one who rules rules like the despots of old colonizers
Natives are fair game
The war is not limited between good and bad
Now the bad ones are annihilating each other
Pity, the poor just have to go
Never was there governance
Ever was there a people
Who kept on struggling
And disappearing in the process
The smell of dawn was strongest when
Martyrs laid flat down bloody
Trouble it's real, who's going to save the country
No one's got the key the courage of an arrow-wielding warrior
The dole-out method of yore's still in practice
Trouble a brewing like ages half-a-millennium ago
The trouble was within but no one bothered
There'll be no peace, for in the hearts of tyrants
The evil one holds supreme
